Basu and her blind adopted son, Shyam. Six years ago, a woman travelling through Khokana with a group of Maoist rebels abandoned her newborn baby. She already had six children and could not afford another. Basu and her husband Bhekta took the child in, hoping he would one day grow up to look after them. However, Shyam?s mother had taken drugs during the pregnancy in an attempt to abort and, as a result, he is currently blind and appears to have learning difficulties ? he is 6 and yet unable to walk. Khokana, Nepal 2013
