Sher Bahadur moved to Khokana six months ago. He was a mountain porter working in the popular tourist region of Annapurna. Five years ago, a loss of sensation in his feet caused by leprosy led to frostbite and, in order to stop the gangrene from spreading, he amputated both his feet with a pair of nail scissors. He still keeps these scissors on a key ring (pictured).

The community he lived in feared him after that, and his brothers took away much of his land. Sher was brought to Khokana by his brother-in-law, a politician. Bahadur (his middle name) means 'the brave'.

Sher Bahadur died in August 2018.
