Archana (on the left) and four other women from inpatients do pre-operative physiotherapy on their hands, which will be operated on the following week. Archana wrote on the print:

"My hand was deformed and so my husband was not happy. He started troubling me and beating me. I could not work on the sewing machine because of my hand."

Her only desire is that her hand will get better. She will need yet another operation after this one however and it will be several months, including training and physiotherapy until she's able to cook as normal back home. Her hand will never quite be the same again. Vadala, India 2012
