In January 2015 myself, alongside researchers and writer Katie Welsford and Emma Pearson, visited Germany and got in touch with a group of Syrian refugees who had come together to take part in an operatic choir. We got to know them, and visited their homes, some temporary, some long-term, and talked about their new lives in Germany and the arduous journeys many undertook to make it there. The Guardian subsequently commissioned us to return and published some of these stories.
